I need to come off Vicodin and Ativan!!?

I have really bad back problems and neurologist put me on Vicodin a year ago and then ativan almost two months ago. I take the vicodin one pill twice a day and the ativan 1mg twice a day as needed for anxiety. My neurologist is out of town for 3 weeks and I want to start weaning NOW!!!! I didn't take my Vicodin for two days and I started having worse pain in my muscles than I have in my back. I have never taken medication except absolutely as needed. Am I experiencing some sort of withdrawal??? I am moving more toward a more natural approach to deal with my bulging discs, radiculopathy and spndylosis. I really need help I think to stop taking this horrible medication. It makes me terribly foggy and sleepy.
